Back4app ChatGPT plugin: Build Software with the Power of Conversation

In the software development world, creating a scalable backend with APIs has traditionally been a task reserved for skilled developers, often requiring hours of complex coding. But what if there was a way to streamline this process using the power of conversation?

That’s where the newly built Back4app ChatGPT plugin comes in! The plugin was created to transform the way backends are developed. No longer will you need to wade through intricate codes or wrestle with confusing configurations. With this plugin, you can simply tell ChatGPT what you’d like to create using natural everyday language, and it’ll build a fully functional, and scalable backend with APIs.

So whether you’re a startup looking to build a new software or application, an experienced developer, or just getting started and have a great idea, the Back4app ChatGPT plugin will give you an unprecedented level of accessibility and efficiency.

How it works

In this first version, the Back4app ChatGPT plugin makes it easy to build a backend by allowing users to create data models (including relations), to store and query any data using our everyday natural language as prompts.

Here is how to get started:

1. Install the Back4app Plugin:

First, make sure you have access to the ChatGPT Plugins beta. On ChatGPT go to UserName (at the bottom left) -> Settings & Beta.

*At the time of writing, plugins are available to all ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

That’s it! You’re now ready to start using the new Back4App ChatGPT plugin.

What can you make with just a ChatGPT prompt?

Let’s take a look at three examples of some of the things you can do with the Back4App plugin by using simple prompts. In the first example, we’ll build a new app backend/data model for a social network app. Next, we’ll store data from a conversation about Nobel Prize winners in a structured database. And in our last example, we’ll create prompts to analyze data from one of our apps.

🚨🚨🚨Note: Some inaccuracies may occasionally occur in the early stages of the release of the plugin. It’s recommended users experiment with different prompt structures.

1. Create a New App Backend/Data Model on Back4app

Planning and creating a data model for a new application can be a complex task. The Back4app ChatGPT plugin simplifies this by allowing you to design and then implement the backend structure for a social network application, for example, in a conversational manner.

If you already have the specs for your app, providing them will give more context to ChatGPT to create a data model that best suits your needs. But don’t worry, If only have a few details you can ask ChatGPT to start by suggesting the data model, an later, ask to be implemented on Back4app.

At the end of the response, ChatGPT asked if I want to create the model on Back4App.

Followed by creating the tables.

In the end, it finishes with the data model.

And you can double-check on Back4App to see if everything was created accordingly.

Additionally, you can test your API by prompting ChatGPT to create mock data.

2. Store Data Generated During a Conversation with ChatGPT in a Structured Database

In our second example, imagine you’d like to get and keep valuable information about Nobel Prize winners for future reference. Rather than manually having to research and copy this information from various places, you can ask ChatGPT to do it and store it in a structured database on Back4App.

You can simply ask to save the data on Back4App.

Go to your Back4App account and check your newly created app.

3. Perform a Data Analysis on Back4App

Analyzing data to make informed decisions is at the core of many businesses. The Back4App ChatGPT plugin can assist you in performing data analysis tasks, such as grouping data and calculating counts based on specific criteria.

In our next example, we have a table/class with all the top scorers from every World Cup. The fields in the table are name, country, and total goals. When asked, ChatGPT was able to correctly provide a simple grouping analysis per country!
